LapScout Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 14, 2026

LapScout is a web app for reviewing onboard track footage, organizing clips and landmarks, and sharing driving references. This policy explains how LapScout ("we") handles information through lapscout.com. Contact us at hello@lapscout.com.

Information we collect

Account information. We store your email address, display name, account identifier, role, account status, and linked sign-in identifiers. If you use Google sign-in, we receive your Google account identifier, name, email address, and profile picture when provided. Google sign-in requests basic identity information; it does not request access to your Gmail messages, contacts, or Drive files. If you use ChatGPT sign-in, we receive the identity information made available by that sign-in service. Email sign-in uses temporary, single-use links rather than a LapScout password.

Content you provide. We store uploaded videos and associated filenames and file sizes, saved sessions, track names, clip boundaries, notes, landmarks, map selections, and saved AI suggestions. Footage can contain identifying information such as faces, voices, registration plates, or locations. Please consider what it reveals before uploading or sharing it.

Account activity. We record sign-in and last-active times and events such as uploads, saves, deletions, profile changes, invitations, and changes to account access. Save logs can include session and complex names and summaries of what changed. These activity logs do not contain video frames, full driving-note contents, passwords, or sign-in tokens.

Viewing and playback information. We collect approximate visits, views of tracks, sessions and complexes, playback starts, visible watch time, video time played, and clip completion. A random identifier stored for the current browser tab renews after 30 minutes of inactivity. The identifiers stored with viewing statistics change each day and are not linked to an account or persistent visitor profile. Events are categorized by account role so administrators can exclude their own use from reports. Our viewing-statistics code skips collection when the browser sends a Do Not Track setting of 1; this does not disable essential security or account records.

Technical and usage information. Our hosting and delivery providers process requests, including network information needed to operate the service. LapScout uses hashed IP-derived identifiers for request-rate limits and records daily AI usage estimates and incoming upload bytes. These totals help detect abuse and monitor operating costs.

How we use information

We use information to authenticate accounts, store and display content, provide requested analysis, manage permissions, deliver sign-in emails, respond to support requests, understand feature usage, maintain security, and operate the service. We do not use Google sign-in information to access other Google services on your behalf.

Public content and administrator access

New saved sessions currently default to shared references. Shared sessions, their footage, clips, notes, and landmarks can be viewed by anyone without signing in. Please do not assume an upload or saved session is private. The current interface does not expose a shared/private selector.

Sessions marked private are restricted to their owner and LapScout administrators and the owner of the service. Administrators can access and edit sessions, manage users, and review account activity and viewing statistics. Private means access-restricted within LapScout; it does not mean inaccessible to administrators or service providers.

Public material may be copied by viewers. Removing it from LapScout cannot remove copies made elsewhere.

Service providers and disclosures

We use service providers to operate LapScout:

Providers process information under their own terms and applicable arrangements with us. Processing may occur outside your country. We may also disclose information when legally required or reasonably necessary to investigate abuse, protect users, or secure the service.

Storage, retention, and deletion

Saved content remains in the service until it is deleted or otherwise removed. Deleting a saved session removes its saved project; its source video is removed only when no other saved session uses that video. Activity logs and viewing or usage statistics may remain after content deletion. Deletion from the live application does not necessarily remove provider logs or backups immediately.

There is currently no fixed automatic retention schedule for account records, activity logs, or viewing statistics, and no self-service account-deletion button. To request access, correction, or deletion of your information, email hello@lapscout.com from your account address. We may need to verify your identity. We will explain any information we need to retain and any technical or legal limits on the request. Disabling an account revokes access; it does not delete the account or its content.

Cookies, browser storage, and security

We use cookies for sign-in sessions and authentication safeguards, and browser storage for the tab-level viewing identifier described above. Our current viewing statistics do not use a third-party advertising tracker. Clearing cookies may sign you out; blocking browser storage or requests may affect functionality and statistics.

We use access controls and HTTPS to protect information, but cannot guarantee that any online service is completely secure. Keep sign-in and invitation links private; anyone who obtains a valid link may be able to use it before it expires.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the service changes. We will post the updated policy and effective date and provide appropriate notice of material changes. Questions or privacy requests can be sent to hello@lapscout.com.
